Long Road Journeys
For many car users, having to drive distances of more three hours or more is not that common (unless it is a regular part of your job i.e.. a lorry driver) which means we don’t have to do it that often.
Occasions such as traveling to see family and going away on holiday however sometimes require long drives across the country which can be stressful and tiring for most of us. Ensuring the journey is as stress free as possible can be achieved by doing a number of things prior to the journey.
Firstly, ensure you have enough petrol in your vehicle prior to your trip as stopping for fuel during your journey will not only make the journey longer but also finding a petrol station (depending on the route you are taking) is not always easy. Should you be undertaking the journey with your family or a group of friends and have a choice of more than one vehicle try to make sure you use the most fuel efficient vehicle.
Cars such as the Mitsubishi Asx for instance are highly fuel efficient and will save you money on your journey.
The size of the car should also be an important consideration for your journey. Does the car you are taking have enough room to fit all of the luggage or passengers you plan to travel with? Vehicles such as the 4×4 for example are perfect for those going away on a weekend break or holiday as they have a good amount of room for luggage.
For those travelling with children it can often be challenging to ensure the journey is stress free. These days however devices such as portable DVD players and portable video games consoles are available meaning they will be entertained throughout the trip.
Ensuring you have your journey planned out in terms of the directions and route you are taking prior to your trip is arguably the most important preparation you should make before travelling. A satnav should also be adequate to help you get to your destination should you not be familiar with the directions. You should also try to make yourself aware of any road works and closures in advance of your journey which may potentially cause delay.
Some cars today such as the Colt Cleartec have cruise control settings which help ease the strain of driving long distances. Drivers should however still be alert and cautious when using these in order to remain safe ~Drivers should however still take extra care when driving long distances and ensure regular breaks are taken
